Applications open for Creative Climate Leadership Scandinavia (online)

Applications are now open for the online Creative Climate Leadership (CCL) training and transformation program for artists and cultural/creative professionals living and working in Scandinavia.

Application deadline: midnight CET, Sunday 6th February 2022

Creative Climate Leadership (CCL) empowers artists and cultural professionals to take action on the climate and ecological crisis with impact, creativity, and resilience. It was designed to mobilise and connect a creative climate movement.

CCL was developed by the internationally recognised, London-based charity Julie’s Bicycle and is being presented in Sweden and Scandinavia through a partnership with artist and scientist Diego Galafassi, Lund University Centre for Sustainability Studies (LUCSUS), and support from the Swedish Postcode Foundation. This will be the second online course presented by the partnership.

We are all aware of the challenges we face due to climate change, but still it is difficult for most of us to change ingrained behavior. We believe that arts and culture are vital resources for behavioral change and has a role to play when it comes to climate change. We are therefore proud to support Julie’s Bicycle in their work to focus on cultural leadership development for climate action in Sweden and the Scandinavian region.

-Marie Dahllöf, Secretary General at the Swedish Postcode Foundation

The combination of pedagogic and in-depth information, creative approaches and the invaluable experience of sharing ideas and experiences with other actors in different parts of the culture sector has really made it an empowering experience. The effort to help create connections between the participants also feels like it really helps create a lasting engagement, so that the feeling of agency and urgency don’t decline when it’s back to business as usual.

What is Creative Climate Leadership?

CCL Scandinavia offers:

  • An online intensive program of leadership and peer-to-peer exchange for 24 talented and motivated participants living and working in Sweden and Scandinavia (adapted from our one-week residential programme)
  • A limited number of ‘seed funding’ grants are available to participants to support projects after the course.
  • An international network of CCL alumni
  • Participation at a Creative Climate Summit in Stockholm in 2022

During the program, participants will learn from and engage in conversation with invited guests such as global change scientists, organisational change and participatory experts. Together you will develop an up-to-date picture of creative climate action and develop the leadership skills and networks to lead artistic practice and institutions for transformative climate action.

Who is it for?

Creative Climate Leadership is for performing, visual, media, music, and other artists; cultural workers including producers, presenters, curators, administrators, funders, policy makers, and others who are ambitious and passionate about using their cultural and creative expertise in service to the ecological crisis and climate justice.

Applicants must be based in and/or working in Scandinavia (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Faroe Islands, Åland). We are looking to recruit roughly half of the participants from Sweden and half from the wider Scandinavia region.

Cost?

Digital ‘pay if you can’ participant fee: SEK 3,000

The fee covers full participation in the digital programme; inclusion in the on-going network of CCL alumni including three post-course webinars; potential to apply for one of several CCL Action ‘seed grants’ of up to SEK 18,000 (note that only independent freelancers/artists or not-for-profit organisations will be eligible to apply for the seed grants); and attendance at a CCL Summit in Stockholm in 2022.

In recognition of the impact COVID-19 continues to have on the creative community, fees for the digital course have been significantly reduced. We suggest anyone working for an organisation with SEK 2,000,000+ annual turnover pay, but applicants are able to state if they are unable to as part of the application. Independent artists/freelancers and those working for non-profit, charity, or grassroots organisations with smaller turnovers are not expected to pay.

Participants are expected to contribute around 7.5 days in total across the duration of the course (4.5 days online contact time on the above listed dates, and around 3 days of independent work between sessions). Participants are also expected to organise an independent ‘CCL Action’ legacy project (in a format of their choosing) after course completion.

“Participating in the Creative Climate Leadership programme transformed me from a passive, mostly pessimistic spectator into an empowered participant. It connected me to a network of passionate actors from all parts of the globe and of various backgrounds. I keep on seeing the added value of hearing everyone’s voice and unleashing our potential in solving probably the most pressing challenge of our time.” – Previous CCL Participant
