About

María Ruiz Carreras is a communicator with Spanish-Colombian origins holding a PhD in Communication, a Master in Communication, a Master in Translation and a Bachelors in Advertising and Public Relations.

She is currently looking for postdoc opportunities, while she works at the circus venue and association Karavan (Malmö) specially with the project “Cirkus för framtiden”, a project that has the ambition to have conversations, through art and experiences, about humans’ relationship to nature, visualizing a utopian future and how to make it possible.

She also works as an hourly lecturer at Lund University and is currently supervising a few thesis projects at ComDev in Malmö University. She is a member of Lund University Critical Animal Studies Network (LUCASN).

She has published in the academic and popular press on topics related to agriculture and food politics, corporate social responsibility, biodiversity and environmental politics, as well as the theory and practice of animal ethics. Her research examines different issues related to communication, animals, food politics and the environment. She is interested in environmental studies, strategic communication, political economy, critical animal studies, art and creativity, feminism, intersectionality and total liberation.
