Creative Climate Leadership is an evolving international network and training programme created by Julie’s Bicycle and delivered in partnership with organisations and course participants from around the globe.

The programme has over 175 alumni from 26 countries across five continents, with recent iterations taking place in Canada, Scandinavia, and Sweden (online).

Project Lead: Julie’s Bicycle

Julie’s Bicycle is a global charity working at the intersection between culture and environmental sustainability. Their vision is a creative sector powering action on climate change. Their mission is to provide the inspiration, expertise and thought leadership to make that happen. They work with over 1,000 organisations, providing the creative community with the skills to act, using their creativity to influence one another, audiences and the wider movement. They run a rich programme of events, free resources and public speaking engagements, which contribute to national and international climate change policy development.

CCL Switzerland 2023

CCL Switzerland is delivered by Julie’s Bicycle in partnership with Vert Le Futur, initiated and funded by Pro Helvetia and Stiftung Mercator Schweiz.


 

CCL Australia 2023

CCL Australia 2023 is designed and delivered by Julie’s Bicycle in partnership with the Australia Council for the Arts, supported by the British Council and co-designed with Ruth Langford.

Ruth brings over twenty years’ experience across arts, environmental, social justice and youth work and will collaborate with the team from Julie’s Bicycle to design and deliver the programme.

CCL Canada 2022

The Centre for Sustainable Practice in the Arts is a think tank for Sustainability in the Arts and Culture.

CCL Canada is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts.


CCL Sweden and Scandinavia, 2020-2022

Diego Galafassi is a visual artist and sustainability scientist from Brazil living in Stockholm. His PhD from Stockholm Resilience Centre focused on the role of co-creation of knowledge and artistic practices in transformations towards sustainability.

The CCL Sweden programme is realised with the support of the Swedish Postcode Foundation (Svenska Postkodstiftelsen).


CCL USA, Biosphere II 2020

EcoArts Connections brings the arts together with science, social justice, Indigenous, and other ways of knowing to speed the shift to sustainability.

The University of Arizona is a leader in climate change research and outreach with climate expertise across the sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities.

The Colorado European Union Center of Excellence aims to promote mutual understanding and engagement between the United States Mountain West and the European Union.

CCL USA is funded by National Endowment for the Arts, University of Arizona Program in Environment and Sustainable Development and Haury Program, Womens Foundation of Colorado and the UCSD Climate Adaptation Center and the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.


CCL Europe, 2016-2019

PiNA is a leader in social development and education, advocating human rights and democracy, cultural engagement, critical thought and lifelong learning. Slovenia.

On The Move (OTM) is a cultural mobility information network with over 35 members in over 20 countries, facilitating cross-border mobility and cooperation. Belgium and France.

COAL, the Coalition for Art and Sustainable Development, mobilises artists and cultural actors on social and environmental issues through exhibitions, events, the COAL Art & Environment Prize. France.

Ars Baltica support the implementation of high quality artistic and cultural projects with a strong focus on the Baltic Sea Region. Germany.

krug promotes environmental awareness in the Western Balkans through arts and culture and runs the Green Culture Montenegro network. UK and Montenegro.

EXIT Foundation is an official organiser of Exit Festival, Serbia; Sea Dance Festival, Montenegro; and Revolution Festival, Romania and uses the power of the EXIT brand to mobilise the public. Serbia.

mitos21 is a network of national theatres and public theatre institutions in Europe.

CCL Europe was co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union. Individual participants received funding from Bamboo Curtain Studio and the Asia Europe Foundation to enable their participation. The European Cultural Foundation and UCLG Committee on Culture supported the CCL Policy Lab, hosted by Leeuwarden-Friesland European Capital of Culture 2018.
