While reducing the environmental impacts of our own activities is crucial, we also need to be leading on cultural transformation with our programming and practice, in collaboration with Indigenous communities and other marginalized voices."

About

Judi Pearl is Associate Producer for English Theatre at the National Arts Centre and a co-founder and Operations Lead at SCALE – Sectoral Climate Arts Leadership for the Emergency – which works to mobilize Canada’s arts and culture sector for the climate emergency. She also currently serves on the board of The Only Animal and previously served for ten years on the board of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres. She is grateful to live and work on unceded Algonquin Anishinaabe territory.

Project Highlights

SCALE

SCALE is a new ‘network of networks’ at the intersection of climate and culture in Canada. The organization was incorporated in December, 2021 with a mandate to foster a coordinated, artful and impactful response to the climate emergency from Canada’s arts and culture sector. SCALE’s mission is to serve as a national hub to develop strategy, align activities, and build the climate leadership capacity of the sector. SCALE is a young organization with vast ambitions for networking, collaboration, advocacy and knowledge mobilization, all in the interests of affecting profound cultural transformation towards a climate-safe future.
